Well we have to start somewhere, so let start by the installation. You will find the preview version here.
The Exchange is only for x64bits architecture and you need at least Windows Server 2008 R2 sp1 Standard. I will do the install on a Virtual machine with 80go of Disk and 8g of memory (need at least 4go). Assign at least 60g for a test (40 is not enough). Windows Server 2012 RC will use 12.1g after the installation and Exchange will use 2go.
If you need more info on the requirements go here.
In my scenario I have a Windows 2012 RC as domain controller (DC2012) in the domain GSX2012.dc and my Exchange server (EXC2012a) with CAS and Mailbox.
We must install components below on the computer that will be used to prepare Active Directory (our exchange server EXC2012 in my scenario). If this server is a Windows Server 2012, you don’t need to do this; those components are already installed.
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5
- Windows Management Framework 3.0
- Remote Tools Administration Pack ( use this command to install it: Install-WindowsFeature RSAT-ADDS)
Then because we have to install CAS and Mailbox we have to install some additional components and features. We want to install CAS and Mailbox so we will use this PowerShell command to install all the features that we need:
Install-WindowsFeature AS-HTTP-Activation, Desktop-Experience, NET-Framework-45-Features, RPC-over-HTTP-proxy, RSAT-Clustering, Web-Mgmt-Console, WAS-Process-Model, Web-Asp-Net45, Web-Basic-Auth, Web-Client-Auth, Web-Digest-Auth, Web-Dir-Browsing, Web-Dyn-Compression, Web-Http-Errors, Web-Http-Logging, Web-Http-Redirect, Web-Http-Tracing, Web-ISAPI-Ext, Web-ISAPI-Filter, Web-Lgcy-Mgmt-Console, Web-Metabase, Web-Mgmt-Console, Web-Mgmt-Service, Web-Net-Ext45, Web-Request-Monitor, Web-Server, Web-Stat-Compression, Web-Static-Content, Web-Windows-Auth, Web-WMI, Windows-Identity-Foundation
Then we will have to install:
- Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API 4.0, Core Runtime 64-bit
- Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack 64 bit
- Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack SP1 64 bit
Unfortunately the UCM API 4.0 Core Runtime is installing Microsoft Visual C++ 11 Beta Redistributable (x64) and Exchange 2013 Preview does not support it. You must uninstall it. Use the control panel and Programs and features icon to remove it.
At this step you can install Exchange 2013. You must avec enterprise admin privileges or account with enough rights to update the AD schema. The slides should below will show you the different step to install Exchange Preview 2013 :
